Introducing Maiko

今一番私が情熱を持って打ち込んでいることは何か？そうですね、日本食を作ることです。実はすごくクリエイティブな活動なんですよ。それに料理している時って何も考えなくていいから、なんとなく瞑想に近いような感じです。何か料理しようってなった時は、ただ単にそれに集中して、手順を考えればいいだけですから。冷蔵庫を開けて、食材を取り出して、これで何が作れるだろう！って自分自身に問いかけるんです。結果として美してくて美味しい料理ができたときは、食べてくれる人が幸せになってくれるのがわかって気持ちがいいです。料理の他には、英語も好きです。英語を喋るようになったことで私の人生は大きく変わりました。人生における選択肢が１つだけと言わず、たくさん増えて、しまいには料理教室を英語で開けるようになったり、街を一緒に回って紹介できるようになりました。

What am I most passionate about now? I would say Japanese cooking–it is a very creative activity. And I don’t have to think about anything when I’m cooking; it’s almost like meditation. When you’re making something, you just focus on it and think about the steps. You open the refrigerator, take out some ingredients, and ask yourself what you can make. If the outcome is beautiful and tasty, you can make people happy. And I also like English. Speaking English changed my life entirely. It opened so many doors for me, but it’s not just one thing: it has allowed me to teach cooking classes in English, or showing people around the city.
