Introducing Kat

音楽は私にとって自己表現です。自分自身を表現するものであり、また周りの人への気持ちを表すものでもあります。「自分の好きなことを仕事にすれば、人生で一日たりとも仕事をしないで済む。」ってよくいいますが、それは半分正解で半分間違いです。音楽を仕事としたら、確実にリフレッシュしたり、気持ちを切り替えるためにリセットする場面が必要です。しかし私は音楽が好きすぎるあまり、その切り替えが得意ではありません。私は自分が好きなだけ打ち込めることを、自分の仕事にできていることに誇りと感謝を感じています。しかしそれは時に「もっと頑張らなければいけない」と自分をありのままの状態から無理に掻き立て不健康にしてしまうこともあります。常にバランスが大事なのです。5年前にロスから東京に引っ越したのですが、10年住み慣れたロスにいるよりも東京での方がよりそのバランスを見つけやすくなったので、すごく良かったです。
Music is my expression. It’s a way for me to express who I am, and the things that I feel from the people I meet. You know, when they say, “If you do what you love as a job, you’ll never work again in your life”– it’s kind of true, but also kind of not true. When music is your job, you still need to find areas of refreshment and re-set, and to be able to switch off. I’m pretty bad at that, because I love what I do so much. I feel that it’s such an honor and a privilege to do what I love to do all the time. But that sometimes puts you in an unhealthy place–where you tell yourself, ‘I’ve gotta work hard; I’ve gotta work hard”—instead of just letting it flow. You need to find that balance. So moving to LA from Tokyo five years ago was really good for me, because in LA, I think I found that balance a little bit better than in Tokyo, where I was for about 10 years.
