Introducing Alisa

（RCAとインペリアルカレッジロンドンで修士号を取得することについて）その期間を通して築いたつながりが大きいと思います。プログラム（イノベーションデザインエンジニアリング：Innovation Design Engineering）に参加した人々は、非常に大きな情熱、意欲、そしてとても多様な背景を持っていました。 プログラムに参加した人々には、古典的なデザイナー、古典的なエンジニア、その他の人々、例えばキネシオロジー・歴史など、の3つのカテゴリがありました。私たちはお互い異なる分野の説明を通じて非常に多くのことを学びあいました。皆長所を持っていましたが、自身の短所についても正直でいました。私たちのプロジェクトの1つでは、3週間ケニアを訪問しました。誰もが自身の経歴に関わらず、自分たちが有しているものをとても誇りに思っていて、そして共有したいと思っていたこともあり、私はとてもそこでのプロジェクトが好きでした。本当に素敵でした。

私たちがいる間に実行されていたプロジェクトの1つは、さまざまな利害関係者にとって複雑な問題である廃棄物管理システムに取り組んでいたものでした。埋め立て地はもう最大容量に達しており、ゴミを処理してもらうためにはお金を払う必要がありました。私たちはナイロビ デザイン インスティテュートと協力していました。彼女らともに、ナイロビの埋め立て地に住んでいたダンドラの人々と話をしました。というのも彼らはこの問題の影響を直接に受けているからです。実際に住民と会って話をすることで理解でき、ゴミの分別の方向性を作っていくことができました。これは、その年の約10のプロジェクトのうちの1つでした。

[[About doing a masters at the RCA and Imperial College London]]: I think it was the connections that I built through it. The people who came to the programme [[Innovation Design Engineering]] had so much passion, drive and such a diverse array of backgrounds. There are three categories of people that join IDE: classical designers, classical engineers, and a category of miscellaneous people: kinesiology, history, etc. We learnt the most from each other and through different briefs. Everyone brought their strengths, but were honest about their weaknesses, too. In one of our projects, our programme visited Kenya for three weeks. I loved it there as, regardless of anyone’s background, they were all so proud of whatever they had and were so willing to share. It was incredible.

One of the projects that was running while we were there tried to tackle the waste management system, a complicated issue for various stakeholders. You have to pay to have your waste taken away; the landfill sites had reached maximum capacity . . . We were working with the Nairobi Design Institute. Together, we went to speak to people in Dandora, that lived by the landfill site in Nairobi, as they are directly impacted by the issue. By really meeting people and talking to them, we could understand and start trying to build in the direction of waste separation. This was one of about 10 modules of the year.
